Red Wings vs. Penguins for the Cup, Round 2  → nhl.com

Red Wings will win if… They stick to their system. Detroit is a puck-possession team, and if it can find a way to hang on to the puck — especially at even-strength — it will limit Crosby and Malkin’s opportunities. The stronger the Wings play 5-on-5, the better off they’ll be.

Penguins will win if… They can handle the big stage this time. Several Penguins have admitted to being awed last spring against the Red Wings. By the time the Penguins got comfortable with the high-stakes hockey played in the Final, they were trailing 2-0 in the best-of-7 series — a hole that proved too big to dig out of. This time around, they believe they are more ready, an assertion that can be supported by the fact that Pittsburgh has won five-straight playoff games and nine of its past 10.

I say Penguins in 6

Oilers to name Quinn coach, Remmey Associate head coach → tsn.ca

Not surprised. It’s going to take more than a new coach to turn that team around though.

There was a part of the Chicago vs Detroit game yesterday that made me laugh.

Patrick Kane was trying to tap the puck loose from Osgood after the whistle blew Holmstrom skated over and calmly cleared him from the net, said a few words to him and grabbed the mouth gaurd that Kane was chomping on and threw it on the ice. He got a penalty for it but it was worth it for the lolz.

I fucking hate it when palyers chew on their mouth gaurds and Kane is the biggest culprite.

CBC: Havlat's early return 'shocking': concussion specialist → cbc.ca

I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression that the NHL had a “7-days” guideline for when a player got concussed.

FLAMES FIRE KEENAN AS HEAD COACH → tsn.ca

AKA Sutter trying to save his ass for blowing all his picks and prospects on a bunch of bums. Not that I support Keenan, I hate that guy. Also, LOLZ KEENAN GOT FIRED. I bet 20$ wherever he ends up Todd Bertuzzi will sign/get traded not very long after.

Boston Herald: Mark Recchi leaves no stone unturned → bostonherald.com

You hear about injuries that were played through all the time when a team is eliminated from the playoffs, but this is still pretty bad ass. Recchi noticed “a shooting pain in his side” after the Bruins lost game 4 of the second round. He missed a single practice, played and scored in games 5 and 6, had surgery to remove a kidney stone the day before game 7, and suited up the next day.
